Harris campaign declares an entire city in Michigan is racist

Just when you thought cancel-culture could not get any more ridiculous, the Kamala Harris presidential campaign says, Hold my beer. The cackling vice Commander-in-Chief is now in the business of cancelling entire American towns, in swing states nonetheless.

Harris’s campaign staff as well as other Democrats are attacking the Trump campaign for holding rallies in cities and towns that have a history of racism. That is, according to the left, what happened in a town 40 years ago is enough to scrub it from the Union.

In recent months, Trump has held rallies in Howell, Mich.; LaCrosse, Wis.; and Johnstown, Pa. All of these midwestern towns were previously known as “sundown towns” in the pre-civil rights era, meaning the black population was not allowed to freely move in the town after sunset. But, due to tangential and circumstantial evidence, the Democrats have chosen to harp on the history of Howell, Mich., defaming the thousands present-day citizens who live there.

In the 1970s, the Klu Klux Klan was highly active in Howell, and one of the group’s leaders, Grand Dragon Robert Miles, lived there. The Harris campaign contends that, despite four decades having passed, Howell is still the “KKK capital of Michigan.” Their evidence? They claim a handful of white supremacists might still live there.

Reuters reported that on a random day at the beginning of August “about a dozen” protesters wearing masks gathered with signs claiming to love Hitler. There is no indication of where these people came from and why they chose that time and place to voice such a wildly unpopular opinion. Even if the less than 20 people were actual white supremacists and lived in the town of Howell, that would be less than 0.1% of the town’s population— a paltry number that does not warrant demonizing the rest of the citizens of Howell.

Michael Murphy, sheriff of Livingston County where the town is located, voiced his dismay at the Harris campaign’s racist characterization of Howell in an interview. “It really gets me fired up when people try to turn anything in this county into racist or hate because that’s not us,” Murphy said. “We can’t change the fact that at one time the grand dragon of the KKK lived in our county and unfortunately that’s history, but history is just that – it’s history.”

Sheriff Murphy also raised the point that Livingston County has had a consistently low crime rate for the last 15 years. Plus Howell is right in between Michigan’s capital city of Lansing and the largest metropolitan area, Detroit. The security and strategic geographic location for people coming to the rally from different parts of the state made Howell a logical place for a campaign event.

As is the norm, the Democrats chose to overlook logic and reason in favor of ad hominem attacks centered around identity politics. It’s much easier and more politically expedient to throw the label “racist” on Trump for daring to visit the city of Howell. Of course in doing so they are alienating and defaming a large swath of the Michigan electorate.

Joe Biden lost Livingston County in the 2020 presidential election by about 22%, so perhaps the Harris campaign has written off the idea of winning that area. However, that is still potentially thousands of good people on whom the Democrats have slapped the label of white supremacist, a move that has undoubtedly cost Harris votes in an important swing state.

Even Democrat Gov. Gretchen Whitmer threw her own citizens under the bus as she maligned the town of Howell and its residents as KKK supporters. “Anyone who’s doing a little bit of research might have said that’s really a bad idea [to have a rally in Howell]. Look at the optics. You’re showing up where the KKK was just at the same time you’re in Michigan,” Whitmer told ABC News.

Democrats seem to have no sense of their own hypocrisy and double standards. In 2021, Joe Biden visited Howell to deliver a speech to the area’s union workers. The town’s “racist” past was not problematic back then. The same goes for Biden himself, who once eulogized former KKK leader Robert Byrd as a “friend” and “mentor.” The alleged strength of the KKK is only a realized threat when a Republican visits.

The city of Atlanta also has a sordid past when it comes to race relations. In the 1900s a racially charged massacre claimed the lives of 25 black citizens. If the Democrats are so worried about a city’s history of racism, why was Kamala’s rally in Atlanta acceptable? Did the twerking and sexually explicit lyrics of Megan Thee Stallion magically erase the racial strife of that southern city’s past?

The religion of progressivism dictates that America, at its core, is a racist nation founded on racist principles, and it must be dismantled and restructured. Following their own dogma, no rally in any city in any state should be acceptable. In order to prove their piety and zealousness, the Harris campaign should suspend all activity effective immediately. Until then, let the candidate who is without fault cast the first stone.
