Kamala’s election strategy: Like Hillary in 2016, but with more ‘yaaas kween!’

What a difference a decade makes. 

Back in 2014, Time magazine ran a piece entitled Dear White Gays: Stop Stealing Black Female Culture. It was written by an unknown race-baiter called Sierra Mannie, who basically bemoaned cultural assimilation.

“I need some of you to cut it the hell out,” she wrote. “I don’t care how well you can quote Madea [the comedy character created by Tyler Perry], who told you that your booty was getting bigger than hers, how cute you think it is to call yourself a strong black woman, who taught you to twerk, how funny you think it is to call yourself Quita or Keisha, or for which black male you’ve been bottoming—you are not a black woman, and you do not get to claim either blackness or womanhood. 

“It is not yours. It is not for you.”

But now, just ten years on, it seems that this sacred rule of ‘separateness’ has been flipped and reversed (to quote Missy Elliott, another black woman). 

See, with Kamala Harris desperate to win the election against Donald Trump in November, it’s suddenly OK to appropriate culture that doesn’t ‘belong’ to you. As long as you’re a liberal.

The evidence speaks for itself. Only a few days ago, Kamala’s campaign was officially kicked-off on RuPaul’s Drag Race, of all places.

“Each day, we are seeing our rights and freedoms under attack, including the right of everyone to be who they are, love who they love, openly and with pride,” Harris, 59, said in the clip that was published on Thursday. 

“So as we fight back against these attacks, let’s all remember, no one is alone,” she continued, flanked by Michelle Visage, Jamal Sims, *NSYNC singer Lance Bass, and Ghostbusters actress Leslie Jones. 

What on Earth does Harris have in common with these people?

She then visited Provincetown, Massachusetts, which has long been a popular enclave with the gay community. There, she held her first big fundraiser, with wealthy queens coughing-up more than $2 million—double what she’d hoped for. 

According to data from the U.S. Census Bureau, white people make up more than 80% of the population of Provincetown; blacks just 2%.

Hmm, all very caucasian and gay—despite the fact Harris is neither white nor homosexual. So what gives? Shouldn’t a straight woman born to Jamaican/Indian parents be fundraising in a more ‘diverse’ part of America—one that pertains to ‘her’ culture? Wouldn’t that preserve cultural heritage? Isn’t that what Time’s Sierra Mannie was demanding all along? 

The double-standards don’t end there. 

Even Kamala’s heterosexual husband, Doug Emhoff, couldn’t resist a bit of pinkwashing. He claimed that he was with gay friends when he first got the news of Harris replacing Biden on the ticket. Specifically, he told campaign group Black Gay and Queer Men for Harris that he was with “a gay couple friend” having “coffee, messing around and talking” in West Hollywood, another gay enclave, when it happened.

Sorry, what? That’s just weird. 

Why is Emhoff—a straight, white man—now conveniently hanging out with gay couples at times of political prominence? And why the hell was he ever on a call with ‘black gay and queer’ men? Isn’t this against the laws of the intersectionality matrix? 

More pressingly, why is he publicly trading on it?

The answer is simple: like Harris’ entire campaign so far, it’s shameless exploitation of majority-white gays who, just a few years earlier, had been told to stay in their lane because of their race and sexuality. 

Now, those very same gays are suddenly useful.

They are a political commodity to be plundered for the first time; never in American history has the LGBT community been wooed for votes over other demographics.

Perversely, it seems to be working. Within 24 hours of Biden dropping out of the election, a bunch of (largely white) basic gays were seen wearing matching ‘Kamala’ T-shirts in Fire Island, New York.

Soon after, it was announced that Chasten Buttigieg, married to Pete Buttigieg, the U.S. Secretary of Transportation, will hold a fundraiser in the island’s Pines. 

Tellingly, that event is set to be hosted by Andrew Tobias, an economics writer—who is wealthy, white, and gay, just like all of Kamala’s other current targets.

The ultimate irony, of course, is that Harris herself appropriated the idea of a ‘progressive’ campaign from Hillary Clinton, who honed-in on white, liberal women with a feminist narrative during her ill-fated bid for the White House in 2016.

Now, that failed strategy is being repurposed on the gays, which is both lazy and insulting, especially when you consider that one quarter of LGBT people voted for Trump in 2020.

That, dear reader, is low-grade homophobia. And it’s no less vile because it comes from a brown woman.
