The left’s meltdown over Scott Bessent shows they only support liberal gays who toe the line

In the world of DEI, minority people should be elevated above all others. That’s the official line.

This includes, but is not exclusive to, people of color, women, and LGBTQ individuals. It’s an all-imposing club, fully-welcoming apparently.

However, there seems to be one major exception to that rule: gay, Republican men.

The proof of this was reasserted, this week, when so-called progressives had a meltdown over the appointment of Scott Bessent as Treasury Secretary.

It was a bizarre spectacle. After all, if approved by the senate, Bessent would become the first out gay cabinet secretary in Republican history, which is a major milestone – especially just five decades after the Stonewall riots. Nevermind that Trump paved the way for this during his first term, when he tapped openly gay Richard Grenell to be Acting Director of National Intelligence, a cabinet-level position.

Yet, strangely, gay liberals couldn’t – or wouldn’t – support either Grenell or Bessent.

“Trump’s pick of a gay man as Treasury secretary doesn’t mean his new administration won’t be a threat to LGBTQ+ people, especially transgender people,” squealed The Advocate magazine.

Meanwhile, openly-gay MSNBC host Jonathan Capehart said he felt ‘conflicted’ over the nomination, even though it would be a major win for the ‘community’.

“Wait, Scott Bessent is gay, and married, and has children??” he said during a broadcast on Sunday. “You know, if confirmed, he would be the highest-ranking out LGBT person ever to serve — to be appointed and confirmed by the United States Senate,” he added.

“And I’m kind of conflicted about this.”

It then fell to Jon Reinish, a Democratic strategist who was a guest on Capehart’s panel, to state the obvious by saying, “In that case, credit where it’s due …”

At least there was that. But why did it take a straight, white man (the supposed arch enemy of DEI) to make that point? Why wouldn’t a gay man support another gay man above all else?

It’s a question that baffled many X users. “He needs to stop watching his own channel – he’s brainwashed,” quipped one person. “Typical left-wing Democrat,” said another.

“Liberal gays are destroying unity over politics,” mused a third. “It’s so sad.”

And they’re correct. This is a left-wing thing. For example, no gay men on the right bemoaned Pete Buttigieg becoming the first out person confirmed to the U.S. cabinet in 2019. They wished him well, even if they disagreed with his policies or politics.

The same thing happened with Democrat congressman Richie Torres. In fact, when members of Act Up—once an AIDS organization—stormed Fire Island’s Trailblazer’s Park to rip down a flag honoring him, Outspoken jumped to his defense.

Yet so-called liberals seem incapable of doing this in return. Why? The answer appears simple: they hate Republicans more than they love their peers. And, perhaps, themselves.

I’m no psychologist, but maybe there’s something about self-esteem here. Maybe gay liberals are so damaged, so consumed by the ‘velvet rage’, that they prioritize approval from liberal peers.  

Whatever the reason, the reality is clear: there is no longer a gay community. Only atomized sub-groups, divided and compromised.

That said, it’s not all bad. Hypocritical liberals are no longer in charge and a new dawn is upon us. That is happening from the very top-down.

Naturally, Trump himself has championed Bessent, saying in a statement on Truth Social that he is “one of the world’s foremost international investors and geopolitical and economic strategists.” He added: “Scott’s story is that of the American Dream… together, we will make America rich again, prosperous again [and] affordable again.”

This is no overstatement. Bessent is highly-capable of formulating fiscal policies that impact the economy and manage public debt, which is much-needed after the Bidenomics disaster.

He is the founder of the macro investment firm Key Square Group and is thought to have a fortune of $1 billion. He is a former partner at Soros Fund Management and graduated from Yale with a political science degree.

As a married man, he has also been a vocal proponent of marriage equality. In 2015, he marveled at the progress the U.S. has made in gay rights since his college days at Yale.

Ironically, liberals won’t accept this because they’re so wed to their divisive worldview, which is a shame.  

But, come inauguration day on January 20, we can divorce ourselves from the peers who’ve betrayed us. And finally be unburned by what has been, and what has become toxic.
